January is the beginning of a new year, and it’s also National Hobby Month – which is very fitting, especially if your New Year’s resolutions are to keep doing the things you love (or if you want to pick up a new hobby). This may seem difficult if you have a hobby that requires a lot of specialized tools and equipment – such as woodworking.
“We’ve seen that many older adults, especially men, enjoy woodworking,” says Cristine Royer, Director of Marketing and Sales at The Estates at Carpenters. “If you have a woodworking shop in your home, you may be hesitant to move to a retirement community because it would mean giving up your space. That’s one of the many reasons why we built our Carpenter’s Shop. Our residents who love woodworking can continue to do their hobby while also enjoying all the benefits our all-inclusive, maintenance-free lifestyle provides.”
The Carpenter’s Shop at The Estates at Carpenters is a 1,200 square foot hobby and woodworking shop complete with an extensive array of tools both stationary and portable.
“It’s truly a carpenter’s dream,” Cristine says.
Resident Michael Brink agrees. “While planning my move to The Estates, I knew I would have more free time and was excited about the Carpenter’s Shop expansion that was in the works. Now I can entertain my desire to pursue woodworking while learning from wiser woodworkers in the newly designed shop.”
“I had difficulty with the idea of giving up my tools and the enjoyment of creating,” says Chuck Nash, another resident. “The Carpenter’s Shop provides the best possible answer.”
JC Powell says: “My shop at home was well equipped with tools needed for many kinds of projects including woodworking. Those tools were left behind because the carpenter’s shop at The Estates was so well equipped. I am looking forward to years of creating in the newly renovated Carpenter’s Shop.”
Chuck Nash has been a long-time woodworking enthusiast, and the Carpenter’s Shop is what clinched the deal for him to move to The Estates. “I knew it would be tough to give up my woodworking shop, and then I heard The Estates was in the process of expanding their current woodworking environment,” he says. Now, not only is his space larger, but it also allowed him to bring his plethora of tools with them and expand on his abilities.
“The Carpenter’s Shop is just one of the many ways The Estates provides uncompromised retirement living for our residents,” Cristine says. “We believe that this is really the time of your life and you shouldn’t have to compromise or give up the things you love. Whatever it is that you love to do or want to do, we can make it happen at our retirement community. We’re looking forward to learning about your hobbies, and helping you continue to do them for many, many years.”
